Re: Old School Washer to HE Washer - Help!!!

Welcome back

I had mildly hard water, but have had a FLer since before DD was born. My typical routine has been:

Delicate cycle (warm/cold or cold/cold didn't seem to make a difference)
Regular cycle, heavy soil, w/ extra rinse (hot/cold)

I used ALL F&C HE or the Sears brand (Ultra Plus) fragrance free HE powder detergent, about 1/2 or so of the amount recommended for a regular load.

Occasionally, I would run diapers through on the sanitary cycle, just for good measure (w/ all the heavy soil, pre-rinse, extra rinse add-ons). This time around, I may try washing on the bulky/comforter setting, as I understand it uses more water, but I haven't done it so far.

Good luck w/ your new LO!

Re: Old School Washer to HE Washer - Help!!!

I probably should have mentioned - this is a TL HE washer - which actually seems to be worse than a FL. With a FL, everything gets cycled around. With this TL, everything just sort of sits there and swishes back and forth, barely.

I will get a picture of the machine and the controls.

I'm half tempted to buy an old, used washer for a couple hundred bucks just for diapers. Hubby is a plumber, so I'm SURE he could get a line in for water!

Once you have your routine they really are not that bad. How many diaper do you wash at a time? The more diapers your have in there the better they wash since the way HE machines work is beating the clothes against each other. You can always add an old towel to the wash to create that action.

I would sell the washer on craigslist and get one that cleans well. I don't know anyone IRL who has success getting clothes clean in a TL HE washer. I can't imagine it could get diapers clean if clothed are a problem.
