Is this boy name too girly?

DH had the name "Carey" come to him for a boy and we are both stuck on it. As in, we really like it for some reason and think it may be our name. It's an Irish boy name, we found out when we looked it up. My single concern is that it sounds like "Carrie" - a girls' name. What are your impressions when you hear the name "Carey" for a boy?

I've known a few guys named Carey (or Kerry)! It doesn't seem feminine to me.

Re: Is this boy name too girly?

If I just heard something like "Carey came over to play", I'd think they were talking about a girl, but if it I was introduced to a boy named Carey, my first thought would be Carey Grant. I'd go for it if you really love it, but be prepared for a little confusion around strangers. My husband's name is extremely girly now days and he was teased and hated his parents, so if it's a gender neutral or slightly girly sounding name, he vetoes it very quickly.

My first thought was girly. But I know a Kerry and never even thought that when I heard his name so I think it was how I saw it spelled since I have a female cousin Carrie.

I think girl when I first hear it.

However I do know a few Kerry's. I would probably spell it with a K, not a C.

Re: Is this boy name too girly?

I didn't think girl when I first read your post. I like it for a boy! Honestly, I haven't seen Carrie used for a girl in years, if ever actually. All the Carrie's I know are around my age.

It makes me think of Cary from The Good Wife, so my first thought isn't that it's a feminine name. I also only know adult women with that name, no kids.
