Have you ever been told the wrong sex during an ultrasound?

Have you ever been told the wrong sex during an ultrasound? Elective or otherwise.

If so, was it corrected in a later ultrasound or were you shocked at birth? At how many weeks was the sex incorrectly determined?

I'm curious to hear how common this is (or isn't)!

Not me, but my neighbor did with her now 7 yr old. Said it was a girl, but found out at birth it was a boy! She said she didn't even have anything to bring him home from the hospital in since she only had girl stuff

My cousin and his wife were told at about 20 weeks they were having a boy. The baby was born just over 41 weeks on April Fool's Day, so when everyone got text messages that the baby was a girl, we all thought it was an April Fool's joke. It wasn't. The tech was wrong.

That's the only case I know personally.

ETA: this little girl will be 4 this year.

Family friend was pregnant with twins found out they were both girls. She had us every week. At her 37 week us the tech said "aren't you excited to be having one of each!" Umm no we are having two girls. "Sweetie, I've done us for 20+ years. That's no girl there".

When I was pregnant with my first I had two boys in my 4th grade class that year that were brought home to pink nurseries!

Yep, Evan was supposed to be a girl. We were told at 19 weeks and re-told at 31 weeks.

When he was born, my Demerol-induced dough-brain started crying and asking dh why SHE had a penis.... lol He ended up being Baby Boy Strickland until a couple hours before we left the hospital - we had NO boy names.

All we could think was that he doesn't look like a Ceara and that he would be wearing a LOT of purple until he outgrew the nb stuff. He is the definition of "real men wear pink!" lol

Sent from my iPhone using DS Forum

AND - a warning to mamas who find out gender:
Always have a backup name. Naming children last-minute can doom them to a lifetime of horrible initials. Evan's are EARS

;-)
