is it okay to put oil in the buckle?

My previous thread was about dd's nauti bothering her and whether or not it's safe to use a seat belt with her.

Well apparently my gpa said it didn't bother her yesterday when he picked her up. He said the buckle itself was too hard for her and he put oil in it.

Did he just ruin this seat?

Most car seat manuals that I have read are very clear that you should NOT lubricate the buckle in any way. You could call Graco and see what they say. But in the mean time, I would not use it.

ETA: Even if the buckle is ruined, it is replaceable, and so the whole seat is not ruined! Just get a replacement buckle.

Tnx. I think he put a little wd40 in it.
I emailed graco and depending on what they say, i may be turning her seat into a hbb anyway

It probably has the be wedged under 2 plastic feet. One of my seats is like that. It sucks but it's not impossible.

Yeah, getting the crotch buckle out on those things is a real beast. I am not looking forward to putting the harness back in ours, and I don't plan to do it for a YEAR.

Is there any other seats that would keep her harnessed that I could buy? Besides a frontier

Re: is it okay to put oil in the buckle?

We have this seat for ODD. It harnesses up to 90 pounds. She isn't in it yet. She is in a Diono till May, when she turns 4. She'll move to the Recaro, YDD will get the Diono and belly baby will get the small convertible seat.

I love the Diono for RFing but I'm seriously considering buying YDD the same Recaro when she is forward facing. Or at the very least, buying a recaro high back booster when she is out of the harness.
