Tetanus is caused by a toxin (poison) produced by
the bacterium Clostridium tetani. The C. tetani bacteria
cannot grow in the presence of oxygen
. They
produce spores that are very difficult to kill as they
are resistant to heat and many chemical agents.
How does tetanus spread?
C. tetani spores can be found in the soil and in the
intestines and feces of many household and farm
animals and humans. The bacteria usually enter the
human body through a puncture (in the presence of
anaerobic [low oxygen] conditions, the spores will
germinate).
Tetanus is not

He's doing better, no infection, fever subsided, urine was clear.. But he still isn't himself and he hasnt been sleeping well. I'm wondering if he is having a trauma reaction to the incident..

Just a comment about tetanus and oxygen. Yes, it is an anaerobic organism. But that does not mean that you cannot get it if there is blood.

Blood from a wound does not mean that the wound is deeper than where it is bleeding.

My DD had a very high fever with the DTaP and acted very "off". She screamed and cried inconsolably for hours. When she finally quieted her eyes glazed over and I nearly thought she had had a stroke. She was 2 months old.

Her twin brother had the same shot that day, and he was a little fussy but otherwise fine. I guess different kids react differently. It sounds like your LO is on the mend, many good wishes to him feeling better soon.

Glad it sounds like he's doing better. It's certainly possible he's having some sort of reaction to the trauma. It's also possible he is just still recovering. Sometimes, just because we feel better doesn't mean we are 100% fully recovered. His body is still healing an injury to the head. I don't think his still being "off" is really something that would be a real reason to worry yet.
