when businesses close reasons besides weather related

Just yesterday that most of the staff at the library here were sick to the point of they couldn't open and they had to get the place sanitized. First time since we moved here.

I've seen small businesses close for funerals when the deceased was an employee.

I've also seen the funeral closing.

I grew up in a super small town (1000 people) and we were really good at high school football. Our entire town would close for the playoff game. Nothing was open. School was cancelled. The grocery stores and gas stations closed. The insurance and lawyers offices. Nothing was open. I'm sure for the few people who didn't go to the game it felt like a ghost town.

I live in a small town (3000) Most of the business are family owned and operated. I've seen notes on the doors about being closed for a few different reasons.

The only stores I've seen close are the asian stores. No rhyme or reason you'd just pull in and they would be closed. No sign or anything. DH started hoarding rice because they were so unreliable. He's cranky without rice.

I work in construction - this is when pretty much everyone here takes their paid days off. So - in essence I get two vacations because NOTHING gets done that week, or the week I spend with my toes in the sand.

I live in a fairly large city, but we still have a lot of local businesses that close rather sporadically with all kinds of reasons, Kids are sick, mom fell down last night, funerals, picking up shipments (local sal****er store), school functions, hunting season, major horse shows, and really who knows what else. We also have a few local restaurants that dont keep standard hours, they are open until they are too slow to justify staying, so sometimes they are open through lunch until 1 and sometimes until 3 or 4 if they are getting enough traffic through.
