Re: Child-led weaning, How old was your toddler?

DD weaned at 20 months. She was my "easy" child, she was only really nursing when we woke up first thing in the morning. DS I persuaded to wean at 2.5 years. He was more difficult, was nursing several times a day as well as waking multiple times at night. I tried just night weaning but he wasn't into that either, so it was best us in the situation to just stop nursing. He did pretty well though.

LO weaned after their caloric needs finally dropped to something reasonable. Before I got pregnant, LO was down to 1-2 times per day on their own. After I got pregnant at 2.25, LO finally weaned themselves sometime between then and 2.5, after my milk dried up.

Nowhere near it here either. DD1 had dropped off to just twice a day at 15 months because I was pregnant and dry. We weaned her because nursing was excruciating at that point. DD2 turned 2 in December and nurses 3 times a day still.

My first self weaned at 23 months but I was pregnant so I think that is why. My second turns 2 on Friday and still nurses a lot.

My oldest was 13 months, third child was right at 2, and dd is still nursing at 2y7m. She is pretty demanding about it and its mandatory for sleep here so yeah...prob not happening any time soon.

27 months here and still going strong. She nurses 2-3 times a night and 4 or 5 during the day.

I don't see her weaning for at least another year.

Re: Child-led weaning, How old was your toddler?

My DD nursed until she was 4.5 years old. I encouraged her to wean at that point because I wanted to get pregnant with our third child (I was tandem nursing her and DS at the time but couldn't envision nursing two kids through a pregnancy).

DS self-weaned a few months after he turned 2, shortly after I got pregnant (with what turned out to be twins ).

My daughter was 2 years and 8 months when she self-weaned.

FWIW, I think that the "horror stories" about people breastfeeding to 7 or older are extremely rare; that's why they stand out. I think that most emotionally healthy kids will wean themselves well before age 7.

My son just turned 3 in fen and he still nurses occasionally at night. He'd nurse so much more if i let him, but my daughter is 17 months and nurses a lot. And there's just not enough of me to go around. :/ but I'd honestly say she'll probably willing ewe an before he does...he's VERY attached to it. But he's fine without it once in awhile which is weird.
