counting movements and when to worry

Obviously I'm worried or I wouldn't be asking!! Baby is usually very active with lots of hard kicks. Yesterday he didn't move a whole lot. Today he has moved ten times from 6:30am to now, 10:00am, with two of those being actual kicks. The rest were more like wiggles. I play a little game with him where I put a half full water bottle on my belly and he kicks it off. Last night and the night before, he didn't kick it off, he hardly moved. He is trying to get it off right now, so I'm less worried, but still no hard kicks, just wiggles. I had an ultrasound last week and the amniotic fluid was a 10, which the tech said was at the lower end of normal, but nothing to worry about. But I'm worried because of the slow down in movements. At what point do I call my doctor? I don't want to be paranoid, but I do want to be safe.

My doctor told me to drink a large glass of orange juice and lay down for an hour. If the baby cannot meet ten movements in one hour, drink another glass of juice and try again. If baby fails, call immediately. The sugar should kick any healthy baby into gear and most hospitals will ask you if you tried to spur them on when you come in anyways

Re: counting movements and when to worry

I don't have orange juice, but I'll try cranberry juice. If that doesn't work, I'll run to the corner store and get Orange juice. I remember that now. It's amazing how many things you forget over the years.

Plus, I'm a little cautious having lost a baby at 16 weeks. I knew something was wrong then, but nobody would listen because they said I shouldn't really be able to feel her move at that point anyway. I had been feeling her for four weeks by that point. Nothing could have helped her, but what happened then makes me more likely to get worried this time.

Re: counting movements and when to worry

He moved 11 times. That makes me feel a little better. But I just can't shake the feeling that something isn't quite right.

My doctor has always said if you're worried then call. Most would rather you be safe than sorry. Besides, worry and stress isn't good for you or the baby.
