Parenting around the world

Anybody have suggestions for good books about how babies are raised in different cultures?

I think so much of what is pushed in America (idk about Canada, but maybe there too) is culturally-based rather than based on the actual needs that babies have. I'd be really interested to educate myself about what people do in other countries. I found that documentary following four different babies in Mongolia, Africa somewhere, Japan, and the US really fascinating.

I have been wondering about this same thing! I should look up that documentary. It sounds really neat! I even wonder about the amish, or our great-great grandparents. I wonder about cultures that don't have so many gadgets to help with baby raising. I learned from a 93 year old client that everybody did EC, atleast for poop. Following my gut and mother instincts makes me feel like there is a gap between how our culture would raise a child and what comes naturally. So many voices to listen too!

My sister gave me a book about French parents . It's really interesting. I think it's called bringing up nene or something.

Re: Parenting around the world

I live in an expat heavy environment and it's fun to see how different people do parenting. I've been on holiday in canada for a while and people keep recommending bringing up bebe to me because I live in France. Which is hilarious because all the French parents I know have no interest in reading parenting books. DH and I are euro-style in pretty much everything we do - when the spawn makes its arrival in October, our parenting style likely will be as well.

Spawn - lol. Wish I even knew what "euro-style" meant. It sounds so chic.
