When did you start brushing your DCs teeth?

When did you start brushing your DCs teeth? Is it really important to start as soon as they come in? What did/do you use? DD only has 2 bottom teeth right now and I am not sure what to do. TIA mamas!

I started cleaning both my dds' gums right after birth and cleaned the first teeth with a soft cloth until she got her first molars, I switched to a soft brush then.

My DD has two bottom teeth too.. We use one of those "finger" brushes.. She loves it!! We do both her teeth and gums... The finger brush comes with a package of it and the toothpaste!

We started when my son got his first teeth, but that wasn't until 12 months!

I am the WORLDSWORST MOM in this area....
I feel bad, but i am. I am trying so hard to get one trach. i dont want my ids to have my grandmas oral hygine. If i culd just get them to leave the toothbrushes andtoothpaste alone. i wouldnt have tohide it, and they would get their teeth brishes more often...

i started while dd got her 1st teeth but its more like i hand her the toothbrush and she cews on the bristes..thus cleaning the teeth ...hee,hee.

We do this too, I think it is to get them used to the toothbrush as much as it is about cleaning the teeth. I had really bad teeth when I was a kid and I don't want my kids to go through that so I am dilegent. In fact, I need to remind DD now to brush. LOL

Riley is a few days shy of 14 mo and we've been brushing for...a long time. When she didnt have any teeth I used like a 'gum massager' now that she has a buncha teeth I use the Stage 1 toothbrush that has super soft bristles and I use the Burts Bees Childrens tothpaste (about the size of a pea) and she even likes to do it herself.

Thanks for all the input ladies. So if you let your DC *chew* on a toothbrush what kind of toothbrush do you use? Do you use toothpaste?

When my first was small enough to just being chewing on the brush, I used the baby/toddler 'gum/tooth cleaner' that is without fluoride. Now that ds1 is 2.5yo, he's getting good at spitting...so he just has normal children's toothpaste. Ds2 has only 4 teeth and I haven't gotten any more of the non-fluoride cleaner yet, so I just let him use the brush with no paste.

I started brushing as soon as they got teeth. Started out by just using a wash cloth while they were in the bath tub then moved on to a baby tooth brush and tooth paste. They have a gerber kind, can't remember the name and Orajel Training Toothpaste that is flouride-free.
