What is this and how do you prevent it?

DD keeps getting puss around the edge of her finger nails, this is the third time it has happened, all different fingers. In the pic you can see that her finger is red a slightly swollen. I think it hurts her to because she will look at her hand and make a sad face. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening and is there a name for it? Thanks

Its it just happening from dry or tearing cuticles? You could try putting some thick buttery lotion on it to keep it from drying out. That hurts a lot, if that's what it is. I get that when I wash my hands too much in the winter.

I don't know what it's from but you can rub some TTO on the cuticles to keep infection away.

Maybe she is irritating it by chewing on her fingers. I don't know. TTO would probably be good on it, but will taste nasty if she puts it in her mouth, I don't know it that would be ok either? HUMMM maybe someone else will know. Good luck

Her cuticles look ok and I normally put lotion on her 2 to 3 times a day (eczema). I'm a little nervous about TTO as she always has her hands in her mouth and that would be . The puss bubble pops and then the skin will dry up and fall of. It is weird . She has a weight check with the pedi on the 19th so I guess I will ask them.

I asked my hubby (a doc) what he thought. He asked:

1) Over what period of time have the three episodes been? (ie, how long between the first and second, second and third?)
2) Has she had any lesions anywhere else? Feet? Mouth?
3) What do the pusstules look like before they pop? Like blisters? Like pimples?

i sorta had the same thing happen to me and it was bc of an infected cuticlue (sp)....

hmm would be interesting to see what the doc says though!

Neither, they are rings of puss around the outside of the nailbed.
And when they do pop the puss is thick and green .

Thanks for asking your DH I would love to know what this is and if there is anything I can do to prevent it.
