Re: Tell me all about CLOMID!

I don't know what Clomid is, but I do know that you were ovulating not too long ago, and I think you will again soon, naturally.

There are plenty of hormone balancing herbs you can drink in tea or take in capsules that bring on ovulation like chaste tree berry, black cohosh, false unicorn, wild yam, siberian ginsing, and dong quai. Here's a link with info on these herbs: http://www.ovulation-calculator.com/pregnancy/herbs.htm

Re: Tell me all about CLOMID!

it's been awhile since I've taken clomid....but I took it on and off for over a year 2001-2002.....it didn't help me much, I still O'd late and didn't get pg. I had all or most of the common side effects people have with it like cramping, bloating, drying up(no cm fluid).....

I never made it to the shot level.....

the u/s are a pain in the butt, it only stresses you more because they often say oh this one measures this size and that one is too big oh but that one is just right (talking about size of the eggs)....

My only suggestion to you is to try not to stress too much while going through all this (I know easier said than done)....

In my case as soon as I relaxed and started to take a break from meds and did my clear plan fertility monitor...I got pregnant w/in 3 cycles....

If your insurence doesn't cover fertility treatments/meds it can get VERY PRICEY!!!! Mine covers 50% and still it is pricey...

Now I am ttc #3, I'm trying not to stress and obsess like I did in 2002...hoping it will happen naturally for me again.
good luck!

Re: Tell me all about CLOMID!

Well I talked to you in IM last night about clomid but here is a few website for you that I had bookmarked..

http://www.conceivingconcepts.com/le...cles/0020.html

http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/clomid.htm

http://preconception.com/resources/a...s/clomid4u.htm

I had taken cycles of 50mg, 100mg and even one cycle of 150mg and didn't ovulate until my thyroid got under control (stupid dr I had) then I started ovulating on 100mg.. It took me 5 cycles ovulating (and last cycle right before IUI) that I finally got pregnant on. Some dr's do monthy progesterone tests and u/s's.. Mine did the progesterone tests for a few months then she stopped, but still wanted me to chart and use OPKS.. Anyways, if you ever need to talk/vent/whatever I am here! GOOD LUCK!!

ETA: Are they going to be giving you a trigger shot too????

Re: Tell me all about CLOMID!

I can only speak as a Clomid baby myself and someone who's dear friend was also on Clomid. Here's the kick: I'm a triplet... and my dear friend at the age of 21 (she wasn't ovulating either) is also now the proud mother of triplets (she gave birth in 2005). I know, I know... totally outside chances but all's I know is... as my husband puts it "Clomid is my daddy". My mother took Clomid in '80 because she was having problems STAYING pregnant (2 miscarriages and a loss of a daughter at 10 days of age).. so they let her try this new drug that was out called Clomid. As the legend goes (for some reason Mom's memory past 1/81 when we were born is foggy... huh...) my brother's were concieved first (2 seperate eggs) and, due to the fact that they were REALLY TTC my mother ovulated again 3 weeks later and BOOM... I came along. Luckily, my mother went full term with us--but both of my brothers tipped the scales at over 6 pounds each, whilst I weighed in at just barely 5 pounds--which led the docs to believe I was actually younger than the boys.

At any rate.. I would stay away from Clomid if at all possible, if it were me in the situation. I know from speaking to my mother that it REALLY made her very emtionally sensative (similar to some people's reactions to the Pill almost). I would try some herbal remedies first... and maybe if THAT doesn't work, move on to the next step. Best of luck!!

Good luck, mama! Big hugs for your mama for birthing triplets, Lord knows that isn't easy!
I've found herbs to work really well. This is a great book I think you'd like: Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year by Susan Weed. It has lots of great ideas for conception and miscarriage prevention. Best wishes!

Re: Tell me all about CLOMID!

Well, I had been on birth control pills for close to 10 years because my cycles were so wonky and I had a lot of problems. The pills helped to regulate things and I didn't have a philosophical objection since I was actually using the big "A" for birth control. When I got married, I decided that I no longer wanted to be on the pill. I went 14 weeks without a period and without a positive pregnancy test. My doc did bloodwork and said that I had O'd but they couldn't tell when. They gave me Provera to induce a period and then started me on Clomid to keep me O'ing regularly. It took a few months and I believe I went up to the 100mg dosage before I had 3 regular cycles including O'ing at the right time. Basically, the way I remember it, I took the pills on days 5-9 of my cycle. That was supposed to make me O between 12-15, I had to go in to have my progesterone checked on day 21 to see if I actually had O'd or not. Once I'd had 3 good cycles, I could skip the blood test because they assumed I was O'ing.

If I remember correctly, you're only supposed to stay on Clomid for 6-9 months. I was on it for almost a year (11 cycles I believe). We weren't necessarily TTC, I just didn't want to be on bcp and this seemed like the only way to regulate things otherwise. My OB told me that I couldn't stay on the Clomid any longer and that if I didn't get pg, she was going to send me to a fertility specialist. Guess what...that month I got pregnant. I lost that baby at 12 weeks. My OB told me that I needed 3 normal cycles (funny since I've never had a normal cycle in my life!!) before TTC again (she still didn't "get it") and that after the waiting period, she would let me try Clomid again for a couple of more months. Two weeks after the miscarriage, I O'd naturally and conceived. That pregnancy resulted in DJ. After he was born, we pretty much took the "don't try - don't prevent" approach although because of marital issues, we've probably had sex half a dozen times since DJ was born...and here I sit, 7 months pregnant again...all natural.

It's been a couple of years and few thousand miles so I don't really remember any side effects from the Clomid...at least nothing that made me want to stop it. I do remember my doctor telling me that Clomid has a much lower chance of producing multiples than other fertility drugs but she was awfully relieved to find out that I was only having one so I wonder if she gave me the whole story. I've read mixed reviews on the web regarding Clomid and multiples. I do know that when I miscarried my first and got pregnant naturally right after, she told me that it was not uncommon and that it was not surprising that the Clomid baby had problems while the natural one was healthy.

I don't really know if that's what you're looking for...it is a difficult decision but if I had it to do over again, I think I would try more natural alternatives before resorting to the drugs, but my whole way of thinking has changed over the past two years and every situation is different. Good luck and hugs, whatever you decide.

Re: Tell me all about CLOMID!

If you take clomid so long it can actually thin out your lining and make it harder for the embryo to implant..

I did try several different herbs before going to clomid, like vitex, dong quai, etc but they didnt work for me.. I wish they had, alot cheaper then clomid.. lol
