Re: HELP: Mastitis
I'm so sorry you have mastitis! I have had it several times.... its terrible!
Recommendations: Eat pineapple or pineapple juice - there is an enzyme in pineapple that helps Garlic helps with infection You have to pump and nurse frequently (every 2 hours) to get the infected milk out. It will not hurt your baby. It will probably be painful to nurse on the infected side, but you have to get it out! Use heat for comfort and to try to break down the infected spots... heating pad, hot shower, hot wash cloth... whatever you can do. Take Tylenol or Ibuprofen to help with the pain. Get as much rest as possible! Those are the things I'm immediately remembering... I'll let you know if I can think of anything else. I'm sorry mama! |

Re: HELP: Mastitis
I "combed" the infected area in a warm shower. Heating pad, frequent nursing... LOTS of water. You will need to eat several raw cloves of garlic a few times a day to get the antibiotic properties of it. I've heard that eating it with honey helps to cut the taste. You can also cut it up small and just swallow it.
I hate to take medicine when I don't need it, but when I've had mastitis... I got SO sick SO quickly that I had to get antibiotics. You may want to call you DR and have them call in something. My dr. scared the crap out of me with talks of surgically draining the area and etc... I don't mess around with it now. ![]() I hope you feel better soon! I HATE mastitis! LOL |

Re: HELP: Mastitis
I agree with PP... mastitis is not something to mess around with. I also had to have antibiotics most of the times that I got mastitis. It stinks, but is better than some possible alternatives!
I did not eat raw garlic.... I just used garlic capsules (like "garlic supplements"), and took several a day. It was easier for me than eating garlic and still helped a lot. |

Re: HELP: Mastitis
Apple Cider Vinegar-drink it three times a day and you will be cured!!
I have had lots of bouts due to biting from my kids and it works like a charm. There is also a mastitus tincture you could buy but it is spendy... BTW, I have a friend whose father is a dairy farmer and he told me they fed their cows apple cider vinegar every day and never had mastitis problems.

Re: HELP: Mastitis
Oh, it helps to put honey with the vinegar or get it down with some salad or stew.
Garlic, echinacea, etc. also work!!

Re: HELP: Mastitis
I waited to long with my Mastitis to see a dr. I didn't know what it was. I was in sooo much pain I couldn't move. I finally went to the ER.
They did an ultrasound and found out it was badly infected. They rushed me into surgery. I had a tube inserted into my breast that drained into an IV bag that I had to wear for a week or so. I know now to go in right away and get meds. The dr. actually took too much out of my breast and now one is noticably smaller than the other. That was too much info huh? Hope you feel better and if you have to, go in and get some meds at an Urgent Care Center. |

Re: HELP: Mastitis
The last time I got it I took tons of vitamin c and nursed like crazy and it cleared up on it's own.
Hope you are feeling better really soon!!
