I don't have much advice but i just wanted to add that my ds is 14 months and 18lbs

Yes, I wanted to add that I don't think 17lbs at 8 months is small at all!! My ds was 19lbs at 1, and my dd was 16lbs at 1! If he's eating at night (6-8oz at that!!) he must know what he needs - I would trust that he is listening to his body. Why on earth every doctor thinks that any deviation from the absolute norm is a problem is beyond me - if you think he is fine, he probably is!!
