I found a tick on my 10 month old!
When I was getting my 10 mo. old dd out of the bathtub tonight I found a tick on her head! It must've gotten on her when we were outside playing earlier today and I never even noticed. I guess I won't be getting my mother of the year award
. Has anybody else been bitten by a tick? What signs or symptoms should I look for, as far as diseases and such? The tick wasn't very big at all, but it was barely attached and left a red spot. Now I'm gonna be a nervous wreck. I can't believe I didn't see it sooner!!!

Re: I found a tick on my 10 month old!
Don't feel like a bad mom!
![]() I grew up in OK....I was a tomboy at that, running around barefoot, playing in fields and creeks.....I've had a tick or two lol You probably don't have anything to worry about. The only diseases ticks spread (that I'm aware of) are lyme disease and rocky mountain spotted fever....just google those and you'll get a list of symptoms to watch for (you might also google for other diseases they could carry...). They are both pretty rare...especially considering its not something all ticks carry, only infected ticks. When you removed the tick though, (sorry if this sounds gross) but did you make sure to do it so nothing we left buried in the skin? Sometimes the head or other bits can be left buried in the skin. I can remember as a kid I had ticks burned off with a match

Re: I found a tick on my 10 month old!
We have 4 dogs and sometimes they get them. My baby had one on her too. Look for a red bulls eye around the spot where the tick was in a day or two. If you see one call the doc right away. If you are really worried just call and see what the doc thinks. Hope this helps. And also, they are hard to notice...they can fall out of trees and land on her. They are also fast. Trust me, you are not at fault...lol!

Re: I found a tick on my 10 month old!
I had this happen with my now 4 yr. old last year. She was outside playing in the yard and when I bathed her, I found a tick on her head.
It was one of those little bitty brown, flat ticks. I made sure I got all the pieces out and then I cleaned it real well with rubbing alcohol. I watched the spot over the next few days and it never got worse, the spot eventually disappeared. Don't feel bad, mama!

Re: I found a tick on my 10 month old!
I grew up in Missouri and I have probably had a million ticks get me. OK not that many but you know what I mean. The tick is probably long gone now, but I know that they recommend that you keep them in a little jar (dead or alive) and turn them in to be tested, I don't know who you are supposed to have test it but that is what I have heard. If it wasn't attached very well chances are it was just starting to try to attach. That is good, once they latch on they really mean business. And if it wasn't that big it probably wasn't the kind to worry about. Watch for the bullseye like PP said but don't worry too much

I don't know if you have any TTO maybe a few drop won't hurt! it is a natural antiseptic.

I only know this because we had a tick infestation in my dds room about a year ago (well, started about a year ago - ordered something from NY, plant thing, and they hatched en route in the box )

Thanks Mama Jo, I was going to say that but I didn't want to provide the wrong info there.
