this is what we do too. If the fever is over 102.5 I will give motrin, but only if it isn't responding to tylenol. Definately ask at the pharmacy or Dr to find out the correct amount. I have a formula for calculating, but you have to be sure you know what you are doing. You can PM me if you can't get the info any other way.

If dd seems in pain I will give Tylenol or Motrin. We generally don't treat the fever though.

nope. If you supress a fever it can't do its job. If you don't let the immune system learn how to kill germs your child keeps getting sick. I will give tylenol for MISERY, but not for a fever or discomfort. Baths, massages, lots of nursing, even tea are helpful. But I hold off on tylenol and advil until I "need" it

Another cute new pic btw

I give ibuprofen if DD is so uncomfortable that she can't sleep. Otherwise, we let it run its course.

I only give tylenol or motrin for a fever if Ds is really uncomfortable, otherwise I just offer the breast alot and let him sleep.

Re: Do you give tylenol for fevers?

We don't generally give tylenol either unless it is really affecting thier sleep or eating. Otherwise we do lots of cuddling, laying around, baths, nursing (for my youngest) and fluids. Really we just do whatever makes them feel somewhat better. We pretty much give them what they want when they are sick and its usually just fluids, cuddling and laying on the couch.

Re: Do you give tylenol for fevers?

Nope. I've only given it a couple of times and I have 3 children. If they are miserable and uncomfortable, can't sleep, function then I would consider it. But just a fever? Nope. Giving fever reducers will not allow the body to do it's job and fight the virus/bacteria off. I guess I grew up with a mom who believed fevers were a good thing and should run it's course. She also didn't take us to the DR when we had a cold. No point. And my kids are rarely sick, when they are they are better in a day or two. I've ever taken them to the ped becuase of illness. Never gotten that bad.

Re: Do you give tylenol for fevers?

I only give Tylenol if 1) the fever is over 102 to prevent febrile seizures or 2) he's too miserable to sleep. Fevers are an important part of your body's immune response and not letting them do their job will just make illnesses last longer.

Re: Do you give tylenol for fevers?

Thanks for all the advise mamas!

I ended up giving more tylenol. Not so much for the fever, if it was just that I would have let it go, but she was just SO miserable. She just didnt know what to do with herself! She was whiney and crying, just really unhappy. At least the tylenol made her a bit happier.

We usually do not unless they are really miserable or cannot sleep
