I was in the store today wearing my 2 month old dd in a wrap and she was fussing a little bit--not even crying but just a little fussy. So the salesman says to me "oh she's hungry, she wants her bottle but you are not giving it to her. Oh well you'll just have to wait." WTH?? First of all of course it wouldn't even occur to him that I breastfeed, not bottlefeed, but then he seems to be implying that I would let my baby go hungry!! Why do people say things like this? Its so incredibly stupid. I had a strong temptation to just be like "oh she's hungry? thank you for letting me know because I don't know how to tell" and then whipping out my boob.

By the way she was NOT hungry, I had just fed her 20 minutes before, she was just fussy! Grr.

sometimes I think people (especially guys) are just trying to make conversation and don't know anything better to say. It can be very frustrating. I hear both, he's hungry and also, "he can't be hungry, he just ate."

When I saw 'he' I thought "aha!" He probably didn't have kids, and for sure not a lot of common sense. Some people believe it is their duty to correct all the 'clueless' mothers out there and must say something when children are crying or misbehaving.

We recently went to a friend's son's grad party and a lady was holding DS. I had fed him about 30 mins before hand and he wasn't even being fussy, just sucking on his fists. She told me I think about 50 times- "HE'S HUNGRY! LOOK AT HIM!" The first 30 times I told her, "No, he just ate, that's not how he acts when he's hungry." Then I figured, maybe she's just tired of holding him and doesn't want to say so I just took him. That might have been her way of getting rid of him although there were about a million ppl there waiting to have their turn at him! Either way it was driving me crazy!

Yeah, ds just discovered his hands too and he's been having a great time with them. Since then I've had the same comments. I just love it when people think they know more about your child than you do.

i had that at my ob. my son was fussy they said "do you have a bottle for him" i replyd no i breastfeed so they then were very supportive about it and seemed to like the fact that i nurse. i guess there so used to majority of people using bottles that its a habbit to say bottle
