OK, I'm about to stp CD-ing......

....because I am so tired of the stink. Please, please help me get rid of the stink. I am seriously thinking of switching. It is so aweful having Maddie stink all the time! We just got back from her 6 month appt and her Dr. loves her cloth dipes. I stuck her in a pink roo right before we left and by the time we got to the appt. she reaked. I had to change her before the nurse weighed her so she didn't smell it and she was barely wet. I love my cloth, but I just can't have this.

I have hard water, but use a softener. My washing routine is one cold rinse, another cold rinse with baking soda, a hot wash with about a tablespoon or so of All Free and Clear, and a final cold rinse (sometimes I add vinager to this).

I tried stripping them last time on hot and turned up the aggitation. I ran them like 5 or 6 times and saw no bubbles.

What am I doing wrong????? I am so frustrated!!

Please help.
Julie

I seemed to have tried it all. What works best for me is washing all inserts with a TINY bit of bleach. Anything else and I get the STINK. It's a pain doing two loads, but I'm thankful for normal smelling dipes.

If I ever find some of that Bac Out I want to try it, but haven't been anywhere to find it. I've been looking for washing soda too- with no luck.

The only way i can get rid of stink is to use a bit of Oxyclean in the wash. But mine don't smell when the kiddos wet them, they just smell after I wash them, weird, huh?

How do you add the Oxyclean? I went to walmart and bought a bunch of cleaning agents that I read about in all the detergent threads..and dunno how/when to use any of them...but wanted to have them when I did need them...I have stinky dipes too but haven't really tried much (as I haven't had anything)....so..how do you add the oxyclean? At what point in the wash routine?

I already said it in another thread...i really think we should sticky a laundry thread...i think it'd be really useful!

What kind of inserts are you using? I just about can't use hemp at all because of our hard water. Plus, with hard water, you can use a little more detergent. I use 1/4 to 1/2 recommended amount . . .

when you do your cold rinse put tto instead see if tat works
never got stink with a tto rinse.
put little tiny bit of oxyclean in the hot wash .
if youcan get sprotswash or allens for your diapies that would help too

The only time I ever had stink issues was when I was using All Free and Clear on my dipes. Since I switched to Allens Naturally I haven't that problem again.

I've heard vinegar and hard water can cause stink. You could try an essential oil like tea tree or lavender.

I think you need a hot rinse.

Hey mine were stinking too and I was using baking soda and detergent...someone said I was using too much detergent. So I cut down to just detergent...I do a cold rinse, hot wash with detergent and down ball 1/2 full of vinegar, then another cold rinse with tea tree oil. THe tea tree oil helps a lot I think. Good Luck.
