Circumcision?

This is purely out of curiosity that I am posting this, but I just read the ear piercing thread and was wondering if those of you who are against inflicting unnecessary pain on your children have the same views about circumcision as you do about ear piercing?

We wont pierce, tattoo or circumcise our children. It is their choice to make when they are old enough.



ETA: I have had tongue piercings, ear piercings and i currently have 10 tattoos. I just think that the child/young adult should be the one to alter their body and not me. If my teen wanted a tattoo or piercing I would discuss it with them, and help them make the right choice for them.

I feel the same about circumcision as any body alterations on a person unable to voice their opinion.

ditto for me but I do think there is a difference in piercing ears as cutting off a piece of a body part on a very sensitive part of the body. I personally won't pierce my dd's ears but I don't think it should be not the norm let's say but circumcision on the other hand....(except maybe in medically necessary situations)

ETA: I changed illegal in my post because that's not exactly what I wanted to say--more just that it shouldn't be encouraged or considered the norm unless the person choosing to do it is an adult and is planning to be circumcised himself

We don't do either. My dd is old enough to ask now and if she did I would allow her. She is very responsible and could handle the cleaning (with me overseeing her though).

I'm an intactivist so I definitely feel the same. The "health benefits" of circ'ing aren't proven and with proper care, circ'ing carries more risk of adhesion and improper healing. I don't believe it's up to a parent to choose that either, if a kiddo wants to be circ'd when he's older, he can always choose to get it done later, whereas there's many men who hate the fact that they are and can't do anything about it. There are men who choose restoration but that's painful and a very time intensive process.

My son's body is not my own, and it's not my choice to make cosmetic alterations to it without giving him a voice in it.

YES...I won't pierce my kids ears unless they WANT it done.

my 6 yr old says she wants it done, but it's her choice....

same with circ'ing but I think very few men who are not circ'ed grow up wanting to get that done kwim?

call me crazy but I jsut don't see that happeneing very often.
