Re: decongsestant for 1 yr old?
I use infant dimetapp drops. My MD doesn't often recommend anything beyond saline, but she said that dimetapp couldn't hurt for a toddler.

My daughter is 2 1/2, but I use Triaminic with her. The yellow (tropical flavored) stuff is an expectorant to get it out of the chest or the red stuff (cherry flavored) is just regular nasal decongestant. I only use it when I have to, but it seems to work. You would just have to call the doc for the dosage.

The pharmacist at the store is also a wealth of information on doses and what medications work well for kiddos for whatever symptoms your child has. I always check with them and they have helped me so much. They are always willing to look up dosage amounts also. I've even just called them. They always want the age and usually a weight to give you an accurate dosage.
We use saliene the most. Sometimes I buy sudafed for our kiddos, though it means jumping through hoops these days to get it because of the drug restrictions. Last time I had to fill out a long form and show a DL! Of course I didn't have my DL with me, it was in the car and I was short on time. Arrgg!Good luck! Hang in there, its bound to get better!!!!!

Re: decongsestant for 1 yr old?
pediacare makes an infant decongestant, also dimetap childrens, or little colds all work wonders. If you just want the decongestant, though, make sure to check the ingredients. You can ask the pharmacist also, and they can give you dosages by weight (since you now have to buy them at the pharmacy anyway).

You guys are lucky! All I ever get from my pharmacist is, "call the dr." What is he there for then?

Re: decongsestant for 1 yr old?
We've used Pediacare's decongestant with DD, though I'm looking for other alternatives (anything that doesn't have Red Dye 40 or sucralose)...
Saline is great but DD throws a major fit if I try to use that on her.
