It's not that I was offended, just frustrated I guess. And like I said, I was never rude about it. Anytime someone made a comment, I realized they were just trying to be nice and complimentary. I'd usually smile and say thank you and walk away or if they had asked a question, I'd reply with "He...." and they'd say "Oh I didn't know!" and apologize profusely. What's most important to me is that he have a healthy self-image. I'm no expert, but as mommy...I don't think this stage of development is a good time for this confusion. Does that make any sense at all?

I don't think you'd be giving him any complexes by keeping his hair long. Funny, I was just reading about boys calling themselves girls (despite hair length) and vice versa (FTR there were no long-term ramifications or any other associations resulting from this in adult life.) Like some PPs said, people will mistake kids for the other gender no matter what...

I personally can't stand when people gender-type their children- I feel that it forces conformity on something that should be left natural.

cute both ways mama! I tend to keep DS #1 hair long (he had beautiful curls), but not as long as you had it...whenever DS#2 gets hair, I'll delay that first hair cut too. At a certain point, it starts to look shaggy though, so I figure it's time to cut

As long as your son likes it, and you like it, it doesn't matter! Both look great, he's a cute kiddo!

Oh and for the record, I don't care what he decides later in life. If he's gay, he's gay...if he wants to dress like a woman, I hope he does so in a healthy way (don't ask me what I mean, because I'm not entirely sure and I can't explain it). If he wants to grow his hair out, peachy keen I just don't want him suffering any confusion because I'm stubborn, kwim?
