Our ped gave DS a vaccine against my wishes -- UPDATE in OP

OMG I would be livid and I vax as of this moment on time! Who cares why you wanted that to be delayed...oh wait take that back I did delay chicken pox to 15 or 18 mos I forget now because didn't want MMR and that together. My point is you wanted it delayed/not given at that point. And they went against your wishes accident or not.
That nurse should have had you sign for them our peds office does! And they said they have to do it before the shots by law. So I would check into that. You need to not let this get swept under. Who knows if she has done it before or will do it to a child that might die and maybe someone in family had similar reaction and that is why they didnt want the vax. There are so many reasons for it.

Oh mama, I am so sorry they didn't listen to you. I am in awe of all this. I think that both the letter and a call would be warranted in this situation.

Please keep us informed on how the reactions to the letter and possible phone call goes.

The reason I wanted this in a letter is so it's on record...there is no paper trail to a phone call, and I did want this documented. I don't believe in suing for most cases, but if for some reason he had a bad reaction that required hospitalization that we couldn't afford, I would request compensation from the dr office. Of course, I know that would be very rare, but all the same, I feel like a written letter carries more weight than a phone call...plus, I have control over what I say in a letter than sometimes I can lose in a phone call.



DH thinks I should continue going to this dr office, but I have second thoughts...there aren't a lot of dr offices to chose from, and in the past they've been quite good. At the same time, I am going to feel very uncomfortable returning.

I would call and have them check the records to see who did it. If the Doc forgot to write it down or the Nurse forgot to double check after you saw that Doc it's still just awful. What if there was a reason (as in health issues) that you couldnt do the vax? My SIL doesn't vax her oldest because of a serious heart condition (she is having open heart surgery for the second time in August) She butts heads with her Doc every time she goes about it.

When The Kid was still being vaxed, every time that he got a vaccine, the nurse had to tell me what it was and the sideeffects and I would sign before he got it.

Not only would I raise cain that they so blatantly disregarded my choices, I would not pay for that shot. I would also demand that that particular nurse NOT attend to my child when I bring him in. If you also have iffy feelings towards that doctor I would demand that he not see my child as well, since she neglected to put in the file that the CP vax was not to be administered.

how about ending the letter something like:

"I would like some reassurance that this mistake has been aknowledged and that precautions will be taken in the future to ensure only vaccines that were consented to will be administered."

I've only read this far into the responses, but I agree. I know when my DD has gotten vaxes before I always always always signed a paper saying which vaxes she was getting, and they explained it tome exactly and THEN she got the vax.

I am a nurse, and there is NO EXCUSE for what that nurse did! I know the whole "mistakes happen." but not when you are a nurse. Part of being a nurse if communication and triple checking your chart with the doctor. She should have checked. And for her to say, "it's not my fault" is ridiculous. I would have been furious. They probably would have had to escort me out of the building because I wouldnt leave quietly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a good idea to write this letter.
