Please help me stop being a paranoid First time Momma...
I'm always SO paranoid that my son is too small or not growing fast enough.
I'll admit, he's rather large for his age, but I was so used to him growing very fast and now it seems like he's not growing at all and it worries me so much!! He's 7mo, 20.5 lbs and 30+in. Yes, I know that's big for his age, and he's growing in length, but it seems like for a while he was stuck at 20lbs and now he's just not gaining weight as he used to. I feel like he should be a chubby baby and he's not, and that maybe there's something I could do to change that.. Maybe this is "that thing" I'm being paranoid about as a first-time Momma. IDK, I just wish that I didn't care so much... Does this go away?!? Sometimes I think I've .

Don't worry, mama! All kids grow at their own pace - as long as he's happy, healthy, and eating well, I wouldn't stress out! Save your stress for when he becomes a teenager!

Re: Please help me stop being a paranoid First time Momma...
I've worried about the same thing....my son stopped gaining around 7 months too, and he's always been on the big side....he tripled his birthweight by 4 months of age....LOL. But since he's been crawling and now walking, he's been at a standstill weight wise, he even lost a little some months.
I think it's normal...if he kept gaining at the rate he was before, he'd be like 40 lbs or more...hehe. |

Re: Please help me stop being a paranoid First time Momma...
It could be that he's easing into a toddler growth pattern a bit early? Toddlers grow much slower than babies do. My dd is 10 months and has been stuck at 19.5 lbs for almost three months.

The "growth chart" and percentiles are soooo over-rated it makes me sick! You are his mama, and you know better than anyone, doctors included if your little man is doing good, growing good, eating good, peeing/pooing enough, etc. I am sure you are doing an excellent job and your little guy is PERFECT!

Re: Please help me stop being a paranoid First time Momma...
There are always things to worry about.
I went through a million paranoid fears. If she was too sick, for a long time, I was convinced she had AIDS. (LOL.. now it seems silly) I even had myself and her Dad tested for AIDS because I was too afraid to let her be tested. If she didn't do something on time for her age, I freaked out. When she broke her leg, I was sure she had brittle bone disease. When she was seven, she had B.O. I was sure it was premature puberty. It's always something. So, get ready. These concerns are very real (to you) and it's what mom's do. We worry. But, it gets better. It really does.

Also.
I have two 12-ish month old daycare kids. One will be 12 months in July. She weighs 30 lbs! The other turned 12 months in May. He weighs 21 lbs. Yet, they are almost the same height. Both are normal.

Re: Please help me stop being a paranoid First time Momma...
Kids are all different. Ds1 seemed to grow exponentially until he hit 2.5yo. Ds2 was always really slow-growing. He still is. Ds1 would gain 4 lbs and several inches between every well-check. I would bet money that ds2 hasn't gained 4 lbs in 18 months.

Re: Please help me stop being a paranoid First time Momma...
My kids have always put on about 1/2 the amount of weight in the second 6 monthes as they did in the first 6 monthes. They have all gained about 8-9 lbs by 6 monthes and about 4lbs more by 1 year old. When you think about it this makes sense, because they aren't hardly moving on their own at first and the second 6 monthes is spent learning creeping, crawling, standing, and walking! My babies have also all lost their "baby fat" in the second 6 monthes. Sounds like your lo is doing great!

My LO has also been "stuck" for about a month, not gaining like he used to although he seems to eat a lot. I think it just goes in cycles. My guy is a small one anyway, 15.5lbs, so I think at 20lbs you've got nothing to worry about!
