Anyone live here in Guatemala? Feeling a little lonely with CDing.

Hi. Im not in Guatemala, but great to have you hear! I used to travel alot to central and south america before moving to Europe. Do many people there cloth diaper?

Oh! Yes, a ton of people cloth diaper here, but they use some of the worst quality diapers you have ever seen. They really just wrap whatever they can find around the baby.

No one in middle/upper socioeconomic groups use cloth. Pure disposable, which is why you see diapers on the side of the road in trash heaps. Breaks my heart.

Anyway, still on the lookout for any other mom's in Guatemala!

Not in Guatemala but my DH is from El Salvador and I'm planning on visiting his family there sometime soon. Just wanted to say hello...

and let you know you're not alone. DH's sister CDed using PFs and flats when she had her baby there.

I hear ya! We just returned to N. Amer form living in Peru. Same thing there - no middle/upper class would ever cd. I heard about the "new wave" of cd's while still living there. I wanted to try some, but it wouls have been practically impossible there. All I could find in Peru were old flats and pins and that did not interest me. Hope you find more support in Guatemala.

Me! Me! Are you still in Guatemala? I'm in the States right now and trying to get some new diapers before heading back into the land of low-quality diapers from the market. I love CDs but my husband (a Guatemalan) is not completely on board. He can't shake the idea that CDing means you can't afford disposables. If he would just look online with me to some of the websites that sell the AIOs for upwards of $20, maybe he'd come around. It's okay, though, he's kind of used to my weird American ways.

I haven't had any problems with the laundry soap I've been using on my diapers, but I wish I had some of the soap I read about. Would you tell me what you use for washing?

I'm in Costa Rica, and I'm not a mama yet, but here's hoping! My DH is Costa Rican, but he's very calm and open-minded, so I've got him on the CD train.

Not sure if anyone is still in Guatemala, but it looks like we might end up moving to El Salvador in a year or two if DFs immigration case doesn't go well. Feeling pretty terrified right about now. I know it's just a possibility, but still. I like to prepare myself mentally for everything.

Did any of you move to Central Am. from the States? Any info about moving internationally? I feel lost.
