Do you like oatmeal? Tried this for DD this morning..

hmmm... I eat oatmeal for breakfast every day.. but I go for the packaged kind.. run outta time.. I might have to try this!!

This may also work better in a smaller crock pot (about 4qt?). I used to have a 6qt crock pot and everything burned in it because it wasn't full enough. Decided downsizing was the way to go for us...

I tried this the other night with old fashioned oats b/c wal fart didn't have steel cut and it turned to mush and burned...I was so sad b/c I was so proud of my self for putting it all together...I think we will go to the real grocery in a bit and see if we can find some steel cut oats.

I used a smaller crock, I think my oats just cooked too quick...my DD was bummed too, she was all excited, lol!

So wait! The quaker oat meal I bought from costco in that huge box won't work? Where the heck do I find these other oats?

Brenda - I found them in a regular grocery store where all the other oatmeal is. They were in a tin instead of a box.

Yeah, pretty important that they're the "real" oatmeal and not quick cook oatmeal.

DAMN IT.
I drug all the kids out to the grocery store to get the ingredients for this, and my small town grocery store didn't have the steel cut oats either. I got what they did have and rushed home to write a post about it....and see that I'm screwed lol.
Guess I'll have to put them all back in the car and drive to our health food store.
We're really excited about this recipe and I dont' even eat oatmeal.
I just want the house to smell good.
Oh....and the kid's to have breakfast.

I always add a pinch of salt and a bit of sugar (brown or honey) to my oatmeal. I cant stand the stuff without it . I think in this case, the fruit might be enough sweet so that it only needs the salt.
