Re: Meal Ideas for a one year old
I have a really picky eater.... One of his favorite things are whole wheat pancakes. I also add in grated carrots, bananas, or peaches or something to add something extra to it. And I know it sounds strange but I use a tablespoon of natural peanut butter instead of oil. I just make up a few big batches and stick them in the freezer for later. He eats those like 5 times a week for breakfast.
![]() Some other things he eats: --melted cheese on toast --YoBaby yogurt --dried peas/beans (I cook the whole bag at once, freeze them in ice cube trays, and then store in bags for later.) --fresh fruit (his faves are yellow peaches, bananas, strawberries) --baked carrots (take a whole "batch" and wrap them like sweet potatoes and bake - I do the same with some other veggies) --steamed (or broiled) broccoli, green beans, spinach, etc. --peanut butter sandwiches, toast w/ PB, crackers w/ PB --boiled eggs --cheddar cheese cubes --refried beans --baked chicken and rice (real easy, you don't have to add seasonings or anything, just dump some chicken breasts, rice, and water in a dish. LOL) --sauteed veggies and chicken --vegetarian "chicken" nuggets And his all-time favorite: Whole wheat pasta with a tiny bit of organic Ragu. Its my favorite too (only I like a TON of sauce). ![]() Last edited by urchin_grey; 10-23-2006 at 02:22 PM. |

Re: Meal Ideas for a one year old
My 1 yr old still eats jarred 2nd stage baby food. But for lunch he eats a jar of food and then crackers or dry cereal. A cheese sandwich is his favorite.

Re: Meal Ideas for a one year old
I work full time so I pack breakfast and lunch for my kids.
For Breakfast they get homemade whole wheat pancakes, french toast or waffles. I make a double or triple batch on Sat or Sun and freeze them in baggies, easy to grab a serving. With that they have some fresh fruit bananas, strawberries, pears, peaches, grapes, kiwi, oranges, plums, etc. For lunch they always have yogurt with a veggie (green beans, peas, carrots, broccoli, asparagus) and a fruit. Dinners at home are: whole wheat pasta with tomato sauce or butter Cheese quesadilla (in the microwave, nice and easy) tilapia fillet with a blend of Puerto Rican seasonings (Sage will eat anything I perpare with this seasoning, she loves it. It is a mix of Adobo and Sofrito) or meals with us and whatever we are eating including steak, pork chops, chicken fillet, spaghetti, lasagna, spaghetti pie, anything cut into small pieces Snacks: Cheese Sticks Cheese slices Rice Cakes sesame street organic crackers fruit (can you tell we love fruit!) craisens |

Re: Meal Ideas for a one year old
I second the gerber meals, they're easy when you're in a hurry. Ash also eats PB&J with natural peanut butter and 100% fruit jelly (sweetened w/fruit juices). He love french toast with the same jelly on it, and I love it too because its so soft and it doesn't take much chewing. He also eats scrambled eggs, and chicken tenders and just regular frozen veggies that I steam. Other than that he pretty much eats whatever everyone else is eating, like chicken and dumplings, lasanga, etc. I actually have a couple pages of snack and food ideas for toddlers hanging on my fridge, I'll post them tomorrow or PM them to you. I get a lot of my ideas from there.

Re: Meal Ideas for a one year old
DD eats pretty much whatever we are eating (she is 14 months)
She absolutely loves steamed sugar snap peas steamed broccoli steamed baby carrots grapes (cut in half) peaches nectarines plums Then she really likes.... apples baked chicken black beans dark red kidney beans rice any combination of beans and rice oatmeal Cheddar cheese some yogurt corn on the cob (granted it comes out whole, but she loves it) She has a pretty sophisticated palette though... I brought home a rice/veggie dish from an afghan restaurant the other day and she devoured it. But what she would spit ANYthing out of her mouth for........ M&M's ![]() |

Alright, this is only what is suggested in the magazine. I haven't tried it all so I couldn't tell you how well it all works. In fact, I don't even know what some of it is!

Kiwi Cucumber (peel, remove seeds, and slice/cube) Well cooked diced carrot (you can get carrots like this by gerber in little jars) Teething biscuits or Zwieback crackers Whole-grain toast with all-fruit spread Fruit cocktail (be sure to slice the cherries and grapes) Whole-grain waffle Grated or shaved apple Small oranges, fresh (remove membranes) or canned (after 12 months) Canned or very ripe fresh pears Banana Tiny chunks of turkey meatballs Matzoh crackers Shredded cheese or cheese crumbles Fork-smashed canned beans or chickpeas Graham crackers (avoid honey varieties until 12months)-(DS loves these too) Ripe honeydew, cantaloupe, or watermelon (remove seeds) Tofu Bites or crumbles of whole grain muffin Pineapple Ripe peaches Cooked pearl barley |
