I want to try babywearing
I am a little late in the game here. My ds is 6.5 months, EBF, he needs alot of constant entertainment and cuddles. I am a very exhausted person in general, so I never thought I could carry a baby around all day. (I had a hard enough time this pregnancy). I also have a 4 year old to tend to as well. And, I am a L/XL sized person with 40F's. Is there anyone else out there that is like me
who wears their baby & can offer some insight? What is a good carrier for bigger and exhausted moms? I have a theodore bean, that kills my back. Thanks!!

Re: I want to try babywearing
I have 2 boys. 8 and 6 yrs old. My daughter is 9 months old. The best carrier for my busy lifestlye is a mei tai carrier. I got mine at www.freehandbaby.com
They are easy to use once you get the hang of it. I love my carrier. good luck!!

www.babyhawk.com she also makes them with extended straps for extra room. I think it's like $5-10 extra for the extra straps. BH's are the most comfy, I carry my 32 lb toddler in mine (new model - not the xt) and the padded shoulder straps really help. Her patterns are the best too.

Re: I want to try babywearing
my sis likes the MT I got her. You might want to try one of those. You can wear you DC in the front or back.
A wrap has a bigger learning curve, but I love those too.

Re: I want to try babywearing
I second the Freehand Mei Tai. I am exhausted alot too, and I also have an older child to tend to and a baby who is very high needs. I was never able to use a carrier with my oldest because the snugglie hurt too bad. But now I can carry my baby all day in a Mei Tai. I have several but my Freehand is the best. I am also an XL mama and I have 36H-I breasts and I manage just fine. I can get house work done, take ds1 to the park (which we did today for over an hour and a half) and still bond with and care for ds2. I have been wearing ds2 since he was just 4 weeks old. He is 11.5 months now and we are still very happy with Babywearing. Now that he is bigger I can carry him on my back which is easier on my back than front carries and allows me to get more done. I don't know what i would do with out my mei tai's.

Re: I want to try babywearing
I third Freehand Mei Tais. It's never too late to start babywearing!! We love our mei tai, DH wears it too- I got a gender neutral pattern so he would.
![]() it's comfortable and easy to use (not a learning curve like with wraps- I am still trying to figure out my ellaroo wrap) ![]() I got mine at www.attachedtobaby.com

I was around a 40H postpartum and used a ringsling until I graduated to a pouch. Just need to be careful the carrier doesn't bind your breasts or it could lead to plugged ducts.

Re: I want to try babywearing
I had a mei tai and liked it but thought it took too much to get it on
I just traded it with a momma I met at LLL. She is a massuse, so we trade the Mei Tai for a massage and energy work I can't wait!Personally I love a ring sling. Simple, easy to get on and off and you can use it in a variety of positions. I have used it from the newborn stage and can still carry 36 pound 4 year old dd in it in a hip carry. |
