Lavender and breast buds in babies?
DD had her 12 mo well check today. I had noticed she has tiny little breast buds, but didn't think much of it. DH had noticed too but didn't know how to bring it up. Anyway, while we were at the ped, she asked us randomly if we use any lavender lotions or anything. I said we don't very much, but DH said he's been using the lavender wash and lotion on her that we have (I didn't think he was using it very often, although I knew we had it). Anyway, she said she asked because she had been talking to a hormone specialist, and was told that the specialist had noticed a connection between breast buds in baby girls and the use of lavender products. The ped said she looked around and didn't find any concrete info about this, but suggested we stop using those products (no problem for us!)
Anyway, any thoughts/info/links/experiences with this? ETA I did find some info on lavender and tto being linked to breast growth in boys, as it inhibits androgen and mimics estrogen LINKY

![]() yeah, that part scared me a bit. But it says that after a few months of not using the questionable products, all effects were gone.

Re: Lavender and breast buds in babies?
I don't use lavender and all my babies, boys and girls, had breast buds for seven or eight months. Sounds like your ped was postulating a hypothesis not asserting a fact. They are due to the mom's hormone levels not from products applied later. I would not worry too much about lavender or breast buds for that matter.

I have an awesome ped, and she wouldn't have brought it up for no reason. I'm certainly not too worried about it, but would rather be safe than sorry! Especially if there's a possible hormone connection.

Re: Lavender and breast buds in babies?
I think something that was surmised from 3 boys using these oils really doesn't indicate anything. Prepubertal gynecomastia often goes away on it's own anyway.
