"So That's What They're For"

I loved this humorous and light-hearted, yet extremely informational, book, especially in the first couple of weeks when breastfeeding was SO HARD!!!!!!! I probably would have given up that first week or so if it hadn't been for this book. I am now still going strong at 8+ mos.

LOVED "So That's What They're For!" and recommend it as a first-read for all moms about to breastfeed. It's a nice way to get lots of good info without getting overwhelmed. Also, "Nursing Mother, Working Mother" by Gale Pryor is a good one.

I LOVE the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding as mentioned above by a couple mommies. I'm not a Le leche League member at all, but I LOVE the book and lend it out to many mommies. I had LOTS of trouble at first, starting out with an inverted nipple and the hospital gave me a breastshield that it took my son 4 months to get off of. Sore, cracked and bleeding nipples, mastitis and thrush. It was so hard for me at first, but I knew how to persevere with this book and what I should and should not do when problems arose. My husband was very supportive. Now my son is almost 6 months old and we feel like old pros and LOVE IT!

Eat Well, Lose Weight While Breastfeeding by Eileen Behan, RD

This is a pretty good book, but some of the menu suggestions where a little more complex that I am willing to do. There is a lot of good Breastfeeding information in the book especially about how your body produces milk and how breastfeeding helps you lose weight. It also has a lot of info about figureing how many calories you need based on your size. I wouldn't say it is the best BFing book out there but if you can find it at the library you might want to check it out there is some really good info in it.

_Defining Your Own Success_ helped me a great deal with my breastfeeding problems, and I still refer to it every now and again. It's about breastfeeding after breast reduction surgery. I haven't had breast reduction surgery, but I have had multiple breast surgeries to remove tumors, so a lot of the same stuff applies when it comes to breastfeeding.

For anyone that's had any kind of breast surgery and that wants to breastfeed, this is THE go-to book. Also, the website http://www.bfar.org is a good resource as well.

This book was great. I liked the fact that he actually included exactly how he would treat specific conditions (infections, yeast, sore nipples, etc.) It gives you something to take to your doctor if they aren't as familiar with specifics of breastfeeding or if they aren't supportive.

It seems like it goes through just about everything that could be an obstacle and explains how you can still breastfeed your baby. I read almost the entire thing before our daughter was born so I would know where to find the specifics if I ran into problems
