I went through all my old ikea reciepts today (you get a rebate coupon if you use your debit card to pay) and went and bought some of these burp cloths to supplement my flat stash . . . I ended up paying $2.18 for 9 burp cloths and a bar of chocolate (for my dh.) They are super cute and can't wait to use them.

Has anybody tried these folded inside a cover or pocket?

Yes, I use them just fine under a thirsties cover (currently use kite fold).

As far as absorbency, to be honest, I think they are just the same as the prefolds I use on my 15 pound 3 month old DS. Although perhaps not quite as soft.
