Joining a Group?

What exactly does that entail? I just joined a military families group, but don't know how to get into it. Maybe I have to be approved for something?

I'm not in that group (not a military family) but groups are usually a subgroup under a big group. Not sure if I'm explaining that right, it's way too early on a Saturday for my brain to be functioning.

Thank you, I did find that earlier but I also joined a group and I just can't figure out what that means.
