The 10 hrs a week would be spread out over several days, somewhere between 2-4 hrs a shift, I don't really know.

I had thought about renting one from the hospital, but I was told that it's around $25 a month, so I figured I would be better off just buying a pump. I don't know what types of pump the hospital offers though. We haven't done a hospital visit yet.

Ok IMHO the isis is just junk. I couldnt get ANYTHING out of it. It was a total waste of $$ for me!

If I were in your shoes I would get the medela single electric. Its a 1 side at a time. It runs around 80$ I think and WELL worth it! I used that until I got my PIS.

I would definitely try an Avent Isis for that amount of time; I found I had no problem expressing 4-8oz of milk during a 15 minute pumping session, and it sounds like you'll be pumping in advance to leave milk, not taking a pump along to work with you. I'd start simple and go from there, but that's just me!

Plus, the Avent bottles/sippy cups are interchangable for the pump, so depending on DC's age, you can pump a sippy cup directly and leave it for them...just a nice feature, IMO.

I like the Ameda Purely Yours. Its fast and cheaper than the PIS. I also got mine off of ebay.

I have used both the Advent Isis and the Medala Pump in Style and honestly I LOVE my PIS. The isis works good, but with the PIS my milk would just flow out. I could pump anywhere from 4-8 oz out in 10 mins or less. With the Isis sometimes it would take me 30 mins to pump. So if you can afford it I would highly recommend the PIS.

Another thing with Medala, they have AWESOME customer service. My first PIS broke when my dd was 10 months old, it was a gift so I didn't have the receipt. Well I called their customer service line and they sent me a NEW one no questions asked.

I also have used the PIS and the Avent Isis. I agree that the PIS is faster, but I can get just as much milk from my Isis. I work 12 hour shifts at the hospital, and get three pumping sessions. I bring home more than DD eats most of the time. For the money and the amount of time you'll be working I would try the Isis first. If it doesn't work you can always get the PIS.

ITA that a manual pump should be more than sufficient to pump enough for being gone 10 hours a week. At $35 v. $200, I would definitely try a manual pump first. Honestly, by 2 or 3 months, dc may be able to go the 2-3 hours that you'll be gone without eating anyway. You would of course want to leave milk in case, but my son isn't yet 3 months old and I usually nurse him right before we go somewhere and he'll usually not get hungry again for 2-3 hours.

I only have Medela products, so I can't compare, but I can get lots of milk with a manual pump, the only drawback being that my hand starts to cramp after a while.
